When I'm With You |

Chance fell over laughing. "Please tell me that Trisha was joking when she called you that. Your name realy isn't Theo Huxtable is it?" She rolled her eyes to the ceiling. She had this problem from grade school straight through to college. Everyone made fun of her name.
"It's Theodozia, actually, and I'd prefer to called by it. It's feminine, it fits, and I don't like it shortened, unless you're family or friend, which sir, you are neither." Chance couldn't help it. There were loads of jokes with her name written all on them.
"True, true. But answer me this." he tried to hold in his laughter. "Do you have sister's named Denice, Vanessa and Rudy? and check this out." he couldn't keep a straight face. "Are your parents names Heathcliff and Claire Huxstable? She sighed, folding her arms across her chest. "If you must know, Rudy is my younger brother's name, and..."
Chance doubled over laughing, holding his side as he was falling to the floor. He fell hard but the only pain he felt was in his side from laughing so hard. Theodozia rolled her eyes again. "And...and my parents are no longer here." she said sadly with her head held low. "Theo..."
She turned and walked back into the covered patio witht the rest of the guest. He wouldn't get the last word in. Chance sobbered quickly. "Did she say what I think she said?" "Yes. you big jerk face." His baby sister shouted. "How could you b so cruel and insensitive?"
He rubbed his hand over his face. "How was I suppose to know? I only met the woman, what, a couple of weeks ago." He plopped down on the stood beside his sister.
"Yeah, and we know what kind of impression you left with her then." she shook her head as if his very being had disgusted her. "Today was definitely no better. i swear Chance, sometimes I hate to tell others that we're related They start looking at me as if I've grown two heads. You just can't seem to contro yourself. I just don't know about you, Chance." she picked up a tray of spinach dip and crackers and carried them out onto the patio.
Chance sat there not knowing what to do. Had he really spoken ill of the deceased? When Trish returned, he pleaded with her to understand that what he had said was not meant to hurt her friend.
"Trish, I'm sorry, but can you give your brother some credit, please. I didn't know." "But you know that there is always a change especially because of our ages." "I know and if I had known I would have let it go as far as it did. You know that." "All I know is that you probably hurt her feelings. I told you that one of these days your so called humor was going to get someone hurt, but you wouldn't lister, would you?
No, he thought. And today was that day.

JUST ANOTHER LONELY KNIGHT |

Thomas Knight had accomplished every goal he'd set for himself in his life. Except one.
He'd graduated high school with top honors, with a football scholarship to the college of his choice. He chose Morehouse.
Graduating with a business degree and being drafted by the Greenbay Packers was more than he'd imagined.
Thomas went on to play 3 years with the pro's, leading the Packer's to 2 championship victories.
Feeling unfulfilled, he ditched the helmet and pads, took his business degree and turned it into a multimillion dollar Brokerage Firm in Nashville Tennessee. The success of that company opened other doors, allowing him to open a new firm in the downtown area of his hometown near Riley Louisiana. Business was good. Thomas made just as much money as he had playing pro ball. But it still wasn't enough.
Something was missing.
A life beyond the job, a family to go home to at the end of the day. Things looked hopeless for the most part.
But a chance meeting with his high school sweetheart, rekindled the love they once shared.
Could Thomas convince this woman that his childhood behavior had not followed him into adulthood?
Or would the antics of a jilted ex-lover, turned co-worker prove to be his down fall and doomed relationship.

"WHEN I FALL IN LOVE"
“How do you know him? Better yet how come I haven’t heard about him before now? Girl, he’s right behind you.” she tapped her hand and grinned. “Control yourself, Key. Dang!" Shyla was getting nervous herself. “Laugh about something so he won’t think we’re talking about him. “No kidding. He’s right behind-” “Girl that is too funny. Did you talk to…” “Excuse me, Shyla,” he said with husky voice. Shyla turned her attention toward him and almost fell out of her seat. They just stared at one another. “I was hoping that was you. I didn’t mean to interrupt your afternoon.” Her mouth went dry. “Hi,” she said taking a sip of water. “Hi yourself. I saw you yesterday but wasn’t absolutely sure it was you.” He was sure all right. There was no other woman with a figure like hers. Kemah just smiled as if to say, "I told you so." “Well it’s been quite some time since I’ve seen you.” His voice made her weak in the knees and wet some place else. It’s a good thing she was seated. “A couple of months,” she said weakly. “That long?” he bounced back and forth on his feet. “So how have you been?” “I can’t complain. Business is good. I’ve been meaning to take a vacation out this way for a while and finally had the time so I’m here. What about yourself? How’s it going and what brings you to this part of the universe? “May I?” He points to the empty seat next to her. “I’m sorry, have a seat. It’s available for the time being.” What had she meant? Was she expecting someone else? He let it pass. “To answer your question, I’ve been doing great. I needed some me time away from work. A few friends were coming down to visit a school pal and they dragged me along. I needed the vacation anyway before I head back to Napa.” “You’re going to Napa?” “Umm, umm.” Kemah clears her throat. “I’m sorry Kemah. I forgot you were sitting there.” “Yeah right,” she said under her breath but not low enough that Shyla couldn’t hear her. “Anyway. Kemah this gentlemen is one of Felton’s very old and dearest friends,” she starts to snap here finger as if she was trying to remember his name. “I’m sorry, I’m drawing a blank, what’s-” “No problem. The names Zachary. Zachary Trellis.” “That’s right Zachary.” She knew she remembered. Zachary knew to but he couldn’t quite figure out what she was trying to prove. Zachary and Felton work together. He reached for her hand and just as he said her name Kemah was a bout to pull away. She remembered a guy with the name Trellis. He had changed her life and if it hadn’t been for his friends and his being untrusting they would still be together. She didn’t want to believe that Zachary was any relation but the had the same facial features, the proud chin, the permanently arched eyebrows and the same deep dimples, even without the smile. The only difference was that Zachary was a few shades darker. Please don’t let this be a relative she thought. You okay?” both Shyla and Zachary asked. She looked as if she were in another world or at least trying to figure something out. She pulled her hand away. “it’s nothing really. You just remind me of someone I once knew. “Really! What’s his name? Maybe we’re distant cousins or something. You know how they say everyone has a twin. Before Kemah could utter a word a medium built white woman walked up behind Zachary and placed her hands on his shoulders. He looked up and was less than thrilled at the person it was but smiled anyway. Shyla and Kemah just glanced at one another. “Zachary Trellis I have been looking all over for you.” “Well you’ve found me, Sandy.” “So I have. Well aren’t you going to introduce me to your little friends?” Oh no she didn’t thought Kemah. She and Shyla looked at one another as if saying I hope we don’t have to cut this B.I. I think I can take her Shyla thought, then winked at Kemah. Then they both began to laugh. “What so funny? Do I have something between my teeth?” she pulled a mirror from her pocket. Talk about vain. “No dear,” Kemah said, “you don’t.” She got out of her chair and stood up pressing her dress down with the palms of her hands. “It was an inside joke.” “I like jokes. Tell me what it was.” They could see that she wasn’t very bright and apparently Zachary liked that or she wouldn’t be holding on to him. She had yet to let go of his arm and he wasn’t doing anything to pull away. “You wouldn’t get it. Anyway.” She put out her hand, “my name is Kemah and this is Shyla. Nice to meet you.” “It’s nice to meet you too.” Shyla too stood and gave a quick handshake as well, not realizing that Zachary was taking in her every move. He could melt into her body. His breath caught in his throat. “So how do you know my Zachary?” Her Zachary, Shyla thought. The look she gave him was priceless, not to mention loaded with enough venom to put a kimono dragon to shame. She turned her back to him. Men, this is what they do. They try to get you and have someone already in the wings. “I just met him,” Kemah said, “but he and my girl here, go way, way back. “Your girl? Way, way back? What does that mean?” Shyla chuckled and shook her head. Lord have mercy she said to herself. Where do these people come from? It means you need to get a clue, Kemah thought, arching her brow. Kemah was getting angry then. “It means that this is my best friend and she and Zachary have been friends for a very long time. Almost married,” she threw in just to get everyone’s juices flowing. Shyla almost choked on her drink. Zachary pulled away from his companion to tend to Shyla. “Are you all right?” He raised her arms above her head. She looked at him like he was crazy. It helps, trust me. She allowed it and the choking did cease. “Sorry about that. I nearly choked to death,” she said eyeing her friend. Zachary retook his seat next to Sandy. “Sweetie you should be more careful how you drink those things. You were probably drinking too fast. “Zachary never mentioned a Shy. Shy what? “Shyla,” she pronounced. “Okay, yeah.” she turned to Zachary. “How long ago was this? Before we met? “Duh, friends, getting married.” Shyla kicked her friend under the table. “Umm, Sandy, Kemah was just…” “So Sandra.? “That’s Sandy,” she said, her tone a bit uptight and her nose flaring mid air. “Whatever.” She waved her hand around. “How do you know Shyla’s little Zachary?” Shyla looked up at her friend and then at Zachary. She turned her head toward the water and just shook it. “We met one day and we’ve been together every since. Haven’t we Zacky?” Shyla nearly choked again. Now, she was saddened by those words she had just heard and tried not to be noticeable but at least two of the three saw her reaction. One was Kemah, the other Zachary., but he wasn’t about to let those word be misinterpreted. “What Sandy means,” he pulled out of her clutches, “is that we’ve become good friend and we have other mutual friends that spend a lot of time together. Shyla wouldn’t look up at him. “We came with three other people,” he tried to explain. “One guy two girls. We’re just friends.” Sandy ignored that last comment. “So Kemah and Shyla, what kind of names are those?” She pointed at Kemah, are you named after that cute little white lion from the old school cartoons? “Oh shit. Kemah?” Shyla saw the unpleasant look on her friends face. “No, Shy. I got this. Look-” “Sandy,” Zachary turned to her quickly, he too saw that Kemah was all fired up, “That’s Kimba the white lion,” Zachary stated. Kemah is a beautiful African Queen’s name. “Oh, silly me,” she said throwing her hand over her heart. “Zach.” Someone yelled across the room. Everyone turned to see who it was. “Those are our friends! Sandy waved. We better get a move on.” She couldn’t get away fast enough. She was sure Kemah wanted to kick her ass. “Yeah I guess we better.” “Well it was nice meeting you both,” she said to Kemah and Shyla with sarcasm and a bitter sweet smile on her face. She placed her hand in Zachary’s and began to pull him along. He didn’t want Shyla to think that anything was going on with him and Sandy, but what could he say that wouldn’t hurt his friend’s feelings. He would explain things to Shyla later. Finally Shyla lifted her head. She could see the wanting and desire that swam in Zachary’s eyes. She almost thought her heart would stop beating, but he was with another woman. Didn’t that mean anything to him? “Shyla,” he grabbed her hand in his, “I really hope we can spend sometime together before our vacations are over.” She could only half smile. To say something would only make her look like a bigger idiot. He turned and shook Kemah’s hand as well. “Nice meeting you Kemah, and you do have a very beautiful name.” “Thanks! It was nice meeting you too. You too Sandy,” she said as an after thought. “Have a good time.” “You two do the same.” with that they strolled away, hand in hand. “Well, that was very interesting. “Yeah.” Shyla wasn’t speaking for now and Kemah wouldn’t pry, not just yet, but eventually Shyla would give up the 4.1.1. On Mr. Zachary Trellis.
